Thinking outside of the box - Packaging Design Challenge to inspire innovation at Pro2Pac

The organisers behind the Pro2Pac 2011 exhibition have launched an exciting new feature to reflect the increasing range of innovative packaging solutions on the market.

The Packaging Design Challenge, which is free to enter, is aimed at all organisations working within the food and beverage industry and will be hosted at Pro2Pac - the UK’s only biennial event dedicated to food & drink processing and packaging which takes place at London’s ExCeL from 13 - 16 March 2011.

Deborah Conneely, Marketing Manager at Reed Exhibitions, who run Pro2Pac said: “Due to fast-changing consumer demand, sustainability and increasing competition amongst food manufacturers and own-brand retailers to achieve product differentiation, innovation in the packaging arena has never been stronger.

“The Packaging Design Challenge is an ideal opportunity for packaging designers, food manufacturers and suppliers of packaging equipment, materials, and containers who want to push the boundaries of packaging, to showcase their talents to the food and drink industry; exciting and inspiring visitors.”

Designers, manufacturers and suppliers who enter may work together collaboratively or utilise their own in-house resources to tackle a packaging challenge. Entrants also have the opportunity, if they wish, to produce a short video about their concept, which will be uploaded on Pro2Pac TV, along with other social platforms. The final packaging design artwork will be showcased free of charge within the Packaging Innovation Hub at Pro2Pac. Visitors to the event will be able to vote for their favourite concept and the winners in each category will be announced during a presentation at the event.

The Design Challenge consists of three categories for participants to choose from and entries are welcomed from independent designers, manufacturers and suppliers, as well as larger organisations.

Deborah Conneely added: “Co-located with IFE11, Pro2Pac attracts food and drink experts from across the UK. The Challenge will grant participants unparalleled exposure to these decision-makers, along with the unique opportunity to test their creative ideas. I’m looking forward to receiving the entries!”

To enter the Challenge, or to find out more, email pro2pac@stormcom.co.ukor call Julie Longton or Naomi Allsop on 0207 240 2444.

The deadline for organisations to express their interest in entering is 5pm on 30 November 2010. Participants will have until mid-February 2011 to work on their designs.

The three categories for the Packaging Design Challenge are:

Scenario 1: Retail Ready Packaging

Scenario 2: Food on the Go

Scenario 3: Luxury Food and Drink Packaging
