Europe’s newest drug packing facility unveiled
Wasdell Packaging has invested more than £1.5 million into a new ISO Class 8 (Class 100000) factory in Swindon that doubles its production capacity and boosts its employee numbers to over 200.
The company contract packs and provides packaging solutions for leading international companies in the Pharmaceutical, Nutraceutical and Healthcare markets.
The new, purpose-built facility measures 60,000 square feet and includes a 2300 square metre clean room complex for the company to pack twice the number of products.
Design and build specialists MTC Insulation Solutions were awarded the build project following an extensive three-way tender and evaluation process.
The factory, which exceeds Good Manufacturing Practise (GMP), will be officially opened on 9th August by the Mayor of Swindon and will employ over 200 people when fully operational.
The buildings layout was the brainchild of Wasdell Packaging’s Commercial Director, James Wasdell, who knew how he wanted personnel, product and componentry to flow through the plant. This design maximises efficiency whilst future-proofing GMP Compliance expectations.
MTC Insulation Solutions was responsible for the build and ventilation to provide air conditioning filtration to ISO Class 8 standard. The energy efficient factory is
A+ BRE Green Guide rated thanks to highly insulated walls and the prevention of over-cooling within the plant.
The building has been designed to allow future expansion as additional production lines will be added next year and the factory’s production flow can be reversed by using adjacent buildings without altering clean room areas.
Commercial Director, James Wasdell adds “The factory marks an exciting chapter for Wasdell Packaging. We wanted to exceed customer expectations and judging by the reaction we’ve had from new and existing customers to date, we have definitely
achieved that. I believe the factory will result in further growth as it has enabled us to future proof the company by improving our level of service.”
Geoff Daren, Commercial Director of MTC Insulation Solutions adds; “This project illustrates how selecting the right project team can take customers’ ideas from paper through to design and completion of a fully accredited clean room installation.
We’ve welcomed James’ ideas into the design process and have worked in partnership to create a state of the art factory that will take Wasdell Packaging to the next stage of growth.”
James concludes; “MTC Insulation Solution’s Site Manager has been excellent - what should have been a stressful time really hasn’t been too stressful!”
The factory has taken 14 weeks to complete. A second phase is scheduled for 2011 which will see more production lines added to double capacity again.
